No noise on the hard drive. Connected the external HD to my Mac but it won't mount. I tried mounting with `diskutil mount /dev/pathToDisk` and `diskutil mount readOnly /dev/pathToDisk` but it won't mount. The disk is formatted in the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format (HFS+). If this is not the first time you're using an external hard drive and experiencing such a problem, it is not likely to be an issue for you. However, you could still check your preferences — just in case. Your settings might not be set to display external hard drives on your desktop. To fix that, go to Finder and click on the Finder button. Mount the external hard drive. I downloaded WD Drive Utilities software to check the HD and it passed WD checks.

Disk Utility sees the Drive, but First Aid fails with error code 8, and mounting via the CLI does not work. No error messages, only when I plug the drive on the Airport extreme, which alerts me the drives need to be fixed.

I checked Finder Preference and marked ‘show external drives' however it didn't worked. Tried to plug-in in different USB ports and checked Disk utility that makes the drive approved blurred. Most Important: I want to access my external hard drive data urgently. Any help is appreciated. ​

I have a Good & Bad News. Good news is I recovered almost most of the videos using the app called Stellar Phoenix Mac. This guide​ helped me. The bad news is that I am still unable to make the drive work as usual. The drive is out of warranty, so there is no chance of replacement. Any suggestions?

Can you tell us the exact make and model of the external drive as well as how you are connecting it (USB-A to USB-C or USB-C straight through).
